As a volunteer at a recording studio dedicated to assisting the reading-impaired by translating print material into audio form, it fell my lot to edit a recording of this book. This entailed listening to about 10 hours of raw recorded text. As a retired technical writer and former chemistry instructor, I found the book lacking in both scientific plausibility and literary grace but long on tedium and repetition. I realize of course that books such as this are designed to reassure those who already accept the Christian legend and mythology and are not intended to stand up under objective examination.

The author's approach is to seek instruction in the proper form of praying by referring to various editions of the Christian bible. Having found sufficient references, the author constructs a sequence of chapters by essentially repeating these references, along with his own explanatory statements and admonitions couched in slightly differing words according to the topic of the chapter. The effect is to raise in the reader/listener a sense of deja vu as various biblical passages pass by two, three, and four times.

The author maintains that properly executed prayer can achieve great things, including casting out demons and otherwise stymying satan, who, according to the author, is actually somewhere down the organization chart from God, Jesus, and even, apparently, the rare mortal who masters the art of effective prayer. (He cites as fact the raising from the dead of deceased persons by certain preachers of the recent past. No newspapers or medical journals are cited to verify these happenings.) The obvious question raised by this book is the usual one as to why evil and sin, illness, poverty, etc. still exist if prayer can be so effective. The answer seems to be that not enough folks have the purity of purpose and proper technique to command the deity's attention.

As you might gather, I do not intend to read or listen to another of Mr. Cerullo's many instructive volumes.
